Redistricting the City of Littleton

images of redistricting files

The City of Littleton is required by its charter to redraw its city council district map every ten years following the Federal census. The process is carried out by the Littleton Election Commission, a volunteer body appointed by the city council, which has sole responsibility for the final decision. The guidelines for redistricting are set out in the city's charter and require that the four districts be contiguous, compact, nearly rectangular, and have at most, no more than a 5% difference in population. The commission may consider other factors, such as diversity and natural boundary dividers like rivers, but they are not required to do so.

  • Littleton city council redistricting only affects city council districts.
  • Redistricting may impact a resident's city council district.
  • The Littleton Election Commission made efforts to minimize the impact on households.
  • The 2020 US Census population counts by census block were used to develop redistricting options using a GIS platform.
  • Only 2020 Census counts can be considered in the process.
  • Future or planned residential development in the city cannot be taken into account during the process.
  • The redistricting process is guided by specific criteria outlined in the city's charter.

Option 'B' was chosen by the Littleton Election Commission and was reviewed at the June 20, 2023 city council meeting. The Littleton City Clerk will implement the redistricting plan.
