Littleton School Route Planner

The City of Littleton is working to make walking and cycling to school a way of life through education, encouragement and partnerships. There are lots of ways to get to school using alternative transportation. See the resources below to explore your options.

Walk, Bike, and Roll

The City of Littleton encourages students and their families to walk, ride bikes, skateboard, scooter, and use other self-propelled methods to get to school year-round!

School Route Planner Maps

The City of Littleton has recently re-evaluated the identified school routes in the city and installed School Route signs designating these corridors in collaboration with Littleton Public Schools. Families can use the online map to view their location, filter by school, and plan routes. The map is also available here to view on a desktop or mobile device.

School Route signage was installed for eight schools; the city is working to expand these wayfinding signs to cover all schools within city boundaries.

Bike Bus Basics

A Bike Bus is an organized group of students, with or without adult supervision, riding bikes to school together along a set route. It can have one or multiple starting points and can have a few or a lot of students, but all Bike Buses have a similar joy, community feel, and transformative energy. Learn how to start a Bike Bus at a Littleton school!

  1. Build Support: Talk to parents and school staff who may want to join. Use the Schoolpool link unique to the student’s school to identify nearby students who may be interested in biking to school.
  2. Plan the Route: Use the School Route Planner to map out the safest route to the school and identify the start location for riders.
  3. Set a Schedule: Use the printable maps to determine and communicate the best time for riders to meet at the start location.
  4. Spread the Word: Share the ride details with everyone, including using fliers, emails, and school newsletters.
  5. Have Fun and Ride Safe: Get out there on a bike and have fun, make friends, and follow the rules of the road!

Carpool

As part of a Safe Routes to Schools grant, Littleton Public Schools has partnered with the Denver Regional Council of Governments to provide Schoolpool to all schools in Littleton.

What is Schoolpool?

Schoolpool is a free, secure mapping tool that connects families in proximity to each other to share the responsibilities of getting the students to school and back via carpooling, walking, biking or riding public transit or the school bus together.

How to Use Schoolpool

  1. LPS provides a link to Schoolpool through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal for secure access.
  2. Parents provide basic info like name, grade, home intersection, and email.
  3. Families are matched with others from the same school (or nearby schools if chosen).
  4. Parents can add notes like “I can do morning driving” or “Looking for a walking buddy.”
  5. A map shows nearby participating families.
  6. Parents contact each other to arrange carpools or walking/biking groups.

Note: Participation is optional.

Report Issues

Using the city’s Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program request form, please report barriers in the public right-of-way that make walking or biking to school difficult or not possible. Issues can be anything, such as narrow sidewalks, missing bike lanes, or dangerous intersections. The goal is to compile this data and inform changes to the public right-of-way, as well as changes to school route signage and wayfinding.
